Fun Ways to Build Preschool Skills: Barrier Activities
What is a barrier activity?
Barrier activities are engaging and educational tasks designed to develop various skills in preschool-aged children by presenting a physical or conceptual barrier that they need to overcome. These activities are great for building problem-solving abilities, motor skills, and cognitive development.
Playfully build tons of preschool skills with barrier activities!
Barrier activities are quick to set up and packed with learning opportunities and are perfect for preschool aged kids! Preschoolers can build & practice their language skills, attention & focus, fine motor skills, collaboration & connection, and more!
The goal of a barrier activity is to create matching images by simply following/giving instructions (without peeking!). And you don’t have to stick to drawing/coloring- you can do this sort of activity with:
Blocks
Legos
Play dough
Anything that interests your child!
Plus… it’s a motivating and FUN way to learn!
Here are two other ideas and examples of barrier activities for young children:
Mystery Box: Place a variety objects inside a box. Invite your child to put their hand inside the box to feel the objects without seeing them and then try guess what they are. This easy preschool activity encourages sensory exploration, vocabulary development, and cognitive skills.
Hide + Seek Barrier Communication Game: Create a game where children must describe an object to the other person (who cannot see it), guiding them to find the object based on verbal instructions. This develops language skills and the ability to follow directions.
We offer 2 fun video game series called Mystery Box and Hide + Seek with Olive which work on building a lot of these same preschool skills. Visit www.classwithchloe.com to learn more!
